Itinerary
This 4-day itinerary covers the best of Dharamshala and Palampur, combining spiritual sites, scenic lakes, monasteries, tea gardens and optional adventure activities at Bir Billing.
Day 1: Amritsar – Dharamshala – Local Exploration
Arrive at Amritsar Airport, meet the assistance and drive to Dharamshala. Dharamshala is synonymous with the Tibetan Government in exile, with its headquarters at Gangchen Kyishong, and most travelers hang out at McLeod Ganj. On arrival check into the hotel. In the evening, visit the colorful Kotwali Bazaar, known for miniature paintings, elaborately embroidered costumes of Kangra people, wood carvings, tribal jewellery and even a million and a half year old fossil of an elephant’s tooth. Spend time at local cafés and enjoy Tibetan and international cuisine. Popular cafés in Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj include Illiterati, Shiva Cafe, Namgyal Cafe and Joyful Café. Return to the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at Dharamshala.
Day 2: Dharamshala Local Sightseeing or Bir Billing (Optional)
Morning after breakfast, proceed for local sightseeing in and around Dharamshala. Visit Dal Lake, located on McLeod Ganj Road, surrounded by canopies of deodar trees that add to the charm of this small lake. Continue to HPCA Cricket Stadium, a picturesque stadium more popularly used for Ranji Trophy matches, offering breathtaking views of the mountains. Visit Gyuto Monastery, located approximately 9 kilometers south-east of Dharamshala on the Palampur–Dharamshala road, an important tantric college of the Gelug order focused on discipline and ethics. It is an ideal place to relax and meditate. In the evening, visit Naddi View Point, a village located at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level in the upper reaches of the Kangra valley, around 3 kilometers from McLeod Ganj. Enjoy spectacular views of the Dhauladhar range. Alternatively, you can opt for a full-day visit to Bir Billing for adventure activities such as paragliding, trekking, camping, rock climbing, rappelling and river crossing (on optional cost). Bir Billing has hosted the first ever World Cup of paragliding and is considered one of the best paragliding spots in the world. Dinner & Overnight stay at Dharamshala.
Day 3: Dharamshala – Palampur Sightseeing
Today after breakfast check out from the hotel and drive towards Palampur. Visit places in and around Palampur such as Dorzong Monastery Complex located in Gopalpur above the town of Jiya, tea estates and the Dhauladhar Nature Park (Zoo). Explore Neugal Bridge and River, Sourav Van Vihar and the Palampur Market. Enjoy the lush green landscapes and tranquil atmosphere of this charming town. Overnight stay at hotel in Dharamshala or Palampur as per final arrangement. Breakfast & Dinner included.
Day 4: Departure from Dharamshala
Today morning after breakfast, check out and transfer to the Airport or Railway Station for your flight or train to your home town. Depart with wonderful memories of your Dharamshala and Palampur trip. Breakfast included.
